Dr. Sibichen K. Mathew is a 1992-batch Indian Revenue Service officer who retired in May 2026 as Director General of Income Tax, after 33 years of service with the Government of India. His career covered tax evasion investigation, appellate adjudication as Commissioner of Income Tax (Appeals), representing the department before the ITAT, and regulatory work as Advisor to the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India. He also led the technology transformation of the Income Tax Department’s CPC and headed a sub-committee that worked on the new Income Tax Act, 2025. He holds a Postgraduate Diploma in Arbitration & Mediation (A+ grade) from MNLU, an LL.B., a PhD, a Post Graduation in Public Policy and Management from IIM Bangalore, and is a Certified Fraud Examiner.
